Confession time

I judge people at the grocery store based on what they have in their carts. I know that many of you probably think this is unfair, but I contend you can tell quite a bit about a person by what they buy at the grocery store. Without even looking at the person pushing the cart, you can infer a lot of information about them. For those of you that are skeptical, I’ll tell you what the people behind me in line bought tonight, and you tell me what you know about them. We’ll see if we all agree. I’ll at least tell you that there were two people together making this purchase.

  1. Two 12 packs of beer
  2. A half gallon of Donald Duck orange juice
  3. A box of Hot Pocket Sideshots, the mini-cheeseburger variety
  4. Some frozen Broccoli-Cheese sauce

First correct guess wins a prize!* February wrap up post tomorrow.

*Prize does not actually exist.
  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with brown sugar, dried cranberries and walnuts
  • Lunch: The rest of that asparagus and rice dish (it wasn’t much)
  • Dinner: Two bean burritos (no cheese) from Taco Bell
  • Snacks: Veggies, pita chips and hummus, and then the big one. Celine’s birthday is March 1st, so we had birthday cake today. A Blizzard ice cream cake from Dairy Queen with Heath Bar topping. It was totally a cheat, and totally worth it.
  • Coffee, water

Tonight we made a recipe called “Ten Minute Tasty Asparagus and Brown Rice Recipe” from 101 Cookbooks, and it was incredibly good! I think that sauteing chickpeas is going to be a new official favorite, it just gives them a much better flavor. The sauce for this wasn’t spicy at all, but it was refreshing and lemony, which was perfect for the asparagus. Two thumbs up.

By the way, do you read 101 Cookbooks? You should. All of her recipes are vegetarian, many are vegan, but I can’t imagine anyone not finding some great recipes regardless of your meat preferences. All of the food there looks delicious, and it’s also just an easy site to navigate. Highly recommended.

  • Breakfast: Nothing, which was a complete accident. I was hungry by 10:30.
  • Lunch: A vegetarian savory pie with vegetarian chili from the Pacific Pie Company. This was vegetarian, but definitely not vegan, as evidenced by the buttery pastry and the cheese on the inside. Oh well.
  • Dinner: Ten Minute Tasty Asparagus and Brown Rice Recipe from 101 Cookbooks
  • Snacks: Handful of almonds, some blue corn chips, a few pita chips with hummus
  • Drinks: Coffee, water, beer and wine

Chipotle and XM Radio

Ate at Chipotle tonight, and it always makes me think of this joke. I’d like to thank my XM Radio for introducing to people like Todd Barry. I mean, it didn’t literally introduce us, but it made it so that if I ever saw Todd Barry out in public, I could succeed in making him rather uncomfortable. I think I’d start by being overly effusive about how great he is, and then I’d pull the ol’ “say something funny” routine to see if he’d try to punch me. Call me crazy, but I don’t think Todd is a fighter.

Why am I writing this? Thanks a lot, Chipotle. Here’s today’s food.

  • Breakfast: Granola bar
  • Lunch: A Basic Bowl with spicy peanut sauce and tofu from Blossoming Lotus. This had beans, quinoa and kale as well. Kale is delicious! Who knew?
  • Dinner: A vegan burrito from Chipotle. I’m not going to link Chipotle, surely you’ve heard of them?
  • Snacks: Handful of almonds, some blue corn chips
  • Drinks: Coffee, water

A brief TV interlude

Man, LOST. What is up with you? You used to be my favorite show, and now I’m starting to lose the faith. I don’t really care much about your characters anymore, I’m completely confused when it comes to timelines and who knows what information, and at this point, I don’t like the way your last season is shaping up.

You’ve spent five seasons putting yourself in an unfortunate position. You see, the final judgment about whether LOST was a great show, a good show, or a total flop rests entirely on this season. Your fan base has followed you through five years of dead ends, enigmatic mysteries, inexplicable plot twists, and worst of all, a host of characters that NEVER asks the logical next question. We have enjoyed all of this long and winding road, and it’s what will make the show great under one condition: it all makes sense in the end and serves some sort of purpose.

If this whole show turns out to be a petty fight between two immortal dudes on some weird time traveling island, I will not be happy. And your show will be a failure. Please, please tell me there’s more to it than that.

  • Breakfast: Oatmeal with brown sugar, walnuts and dried cranberries
  • Lunch: Peanut butter and banana sandwich
  • Dinner: Vegan chili, salad and toasted bread
  • Snacks: Veggies, pita and that hummus again
  • Drinks: Coffee, water, and a beer
